Kearney Historic Museum

See the Kearney Historic Museum building and its fascinating artifacts!

The Kearney Historic Museum opened in 2006 to coincide with Kearney’s sesquicentennial celebration. It was originally a single building housing our rich and fascinating local history, but in 2016 the museum acquired the adjacent building to help with the expanding collection of artifacts.

The addition opened to the public in 2017. One year later, through a twist of fate, the museum received an eleven-page document revealing that the prestigious architecture firm of Boillot & Lauck was hired by Samuel C. Greenfield between 1912-1914 to turn the 1870 jewelry/drug store into an upscale bank building. The document originally accompanied architectural drawings for the redesign.

So, when you visit the museum to enjoy the many displays related to our city’s unique history, you can also enjoy its largest artifact — the buildings they are kept in! Open Fridays & Saturdays year-round. Free
